New West Coast Design: Books
Fri Jan 25 - Fri Apr 25
There is a resurgence of interest in the handmade book as both a craft and fine art object, and the West Coast is at the vanguard of the phenomenon. While the San Francisco Bay Area continues to be the center of greatest activity, there is a growing number of important book artists and artisans up and down the coast. This exhibition will present some of these artists, with a high level of craft being the common denominator. Curated by Kathleen Burch and Mary Austin.

Talented ladies!
A new art magazine for women is looking for entries, ideas and interviews for the Spring 2008 issue. We are attempting to create a magazine for hip, smart and young women interested in arts of all kinds. why we do this? Women are rarely featured in large spreads by progressive art publications (unless they have already estabilished solid in the art market). We have just begun making headlines in the art world in the past 30 years. Women artists of all colors, nationalities and sexual orientations- we need you! We want to be (for art mags) what the Guerrilla Girls were for the art scene in the 80's. We want to be as smart about art as Bitch is about pop culture, with quarterly features of women artists, interviews with painters, illustrators, djs, musicians and so on.... We are still in our fetal development stage but need your help building the content. If you are a woman and one of the following come join our small staff. The positions open:
Freelance writers
music editors
illustrators of all kinds
If you are revolutionary, hip, smart and want to be a part of this creation, please send us a brief description of what you do and a sample of your art. (You can screen your name across art in Photoshop if you worry about sending your art away into the unknown-we are artists and we understand.) This is an ART mag, we are not looking to write extensively about politics cooking or beauty unless its in the art context. please send your e-mails to rawartrag@gmail.com with :RAW ENTRY: in the title field.
Hope to hear from you soon!
