Sept 15, 2000  DEADLINE CALL for PAPERS/PROJECTS: "CyberIsms: Voice, Identity & Communication in the Virtual Realm"

(detail), SBAWCA's journal of art criticism, is calling for works on the theme of voice, identity, and communication in cyberspace. The territory of the virtual is vast and in fact unlimited. The ways we are able to communicate and present ourselves in this space are mutable and evolving.
We are encountering new challenges, experiences and pleasures in our virtual interactions. The ways we think, express, approach, engage, and resolve are being altered. (detail) is looking for works which address these issues and their effects.

Topic examples include: net art, activism, access, email, chatrooms, discussion groups, representation, interactive web environments/games, MUD's, net etiquette, professional presentation... Forms may include: theory, practice, criticism, reviews, personal experience, and creative works. Contributors must be current members of WCA. Open to all chapters.

Initial deadline is Sept 15, 2000.

There are exciting plans for an active photo group to meet, exchange ideas, share viewing their photos and work toward having a group show. The proposal is that the group meet every other month on the 2nd or 3rd
Thursday. The group will decide on a particular location as an assignment (to go individually, with another photographer or in a group as each photographer prefers) sometime in the following two months and then share the resulting photos at the next meeting, either as prints or even as a slide show. It's not only fascinating, but a great learning experience to see what other photographers do with the same subject matter. It is
potentially a good idea for an exhibition as well and once we get going, we plan to put together a proposal for a group show. We would like the group to be open to non-members and men as well to bring in outside energy and viewpoints and inspire new creativity.

The inaugural planning meeting is scheduled for June 15th at 7:30 PM to be held at Diane Cassidy's house in Cupertino. As we find out where interested participants are from, we can choose a different location for subsequent meetings.

If you have any suggestions or questions, contact: Dotti Cichon at .
